RADAR CHECK:
  1. Parent Report Card Reflection:                                  Due Tue., Dec. 15!
  2. Gift of Reading: Wrap a new or like-new book appropriate for grades 3-4 and bring to school by Thu & Fri!
  3. Winter Break: Dec. 21- Jan. 8

Work Journal 2: Many thanks to you all for providing rich learning and discovery opportunities in your Home School Learning! Everyone worked hard to create a research project and I can't wait to see the final products during Exhibition in May.  Save those final products to display on your student's Artifact Table as one of their samples of growth in writing.

Writing:
Fractured Fairy tales- I read a few books to help inspire students in creating their own fairy tale. Little Red Writing by Joan Holub and The Plot Chickens by Mary Jane Auch remind and teach students how to create their own story.  Students began filling out a story map and plot planner to create the frame of their story.  I checked in with each student discussing which fairytale they are using as the frame of their story.  We will continue this writing after winter break.

Math: Students have been discovering different ways to show fractions using fraction blocks, pie cutouts, Legos, and more.  Help your student see how many ways we use fractions in our daily lives: cooking, measuring, estimating, and more!

Reading: Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin- We've read Chapters 3-4.  We visualized what gnomes are, drew conclusions about life in The Village, and we will compare & contrast Rump and Red.  We are reading this book as a whole class; however, we will begin reading in small groups.  Therefore, everyone will need a copy of the book after Winter Break.

Project: Students began covering their boxes with plain paper and some have brought in materials to add to their box.  If you can help your student decide what objects to put on their float and help supply those objects, that would be most helpful.  I have some transportation figurines, but mostly I have felt, construction paper, stickers, and a hodgepodge of materials.  If your student wants animals, have them look in their old toys that are unused, ornaments, or toys from the garage.

Community Dialogue: We teamed up with our DVIA Family in the Forum, played some games in our groups, answered questions about the importance of Art, and watched Core 1 perform their "Pout, Pout Fish" play.

HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SEASON! GET LOTS OF REST AND RECHARGE FOR SECOND SEMESTER!

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT YOU'VE GIVEN OUR CLASS THIS SEMESTER!
