Project: Students watched a Brainpop video on Democracy. We discussed and wrote notes in our writing journal. Next we watched a video to learn about the history of the American flag. Then students applied their knowledge by coloring an American flag and writing what Democracy means to them on the white stripes on the flag.
Project: Students watched a Brainpop video on Women's Suffrage. We discussed and took notes in our writing journal. Students created new teams and began looking through some cards highlighting famous women who've made a difference or changed women's rights.
We've also begun to trace the outline of the current $10 bill. Students will be researching about the woman their group has chosen, as well as, what could they add to the back of the bill to represent democracy.
PROJECT: Many of the groups have finished their bill brochure. Thanks to families who helped their students add their information on the brochure. There are just a few groups who will add finishing touches this week.
WRITING: Students are in the final stage, publishing for their letter to the Founding Fathers. Students have also begun to draft their President Narrative.
Math: Megan created fun Halloween scavenger hunt word problems. Remember, we want students to understand the concept of multiplication before we focus on memorization. They need to know that when you multiply, you are counting how many groups times how many in each group.
Because we have students on a range of skills from new to multiplication to advanced multiplication with fractions, it is almost impossible to meet everyone's needs in 50 minutes. Therefore, we will dedicate 45-50 minutes to each group by dividing the classes- beginners & intermediate multipliers/ intermediate & advanced multipliers. That means, when one group is with Megan the other group is with me in writing.
Exhibition is two weeks away...4 school days for me!!
If families could help your students research, take notes, and learn about the woman their group chose, that would help your student feel confident and more prepared when writing their proposal to the Treasury website.
First week of November...have a fun week of learning!
