Oh, the joys of time-off! Be safe out there today and enjoy time with family and friends! Check out this Time for Kids article about the history of Labor Day.
Reading: We continued practicing the "Stop, Notice, and Note" strategy "Again and Again" while I read aloud, Me First by Helen Lester.
Reading/Project: The students have been working hard learning about their specific branch of government, the U.S. Constitution, or Checks and Balances. The students have been learning how to print images from the internet to add to their posters.
Project: We invited Michelle, The Executive Branch to our class so that students can share with her their classroom bills. Michelle asked great clarifying and probing questions that made the students think more deeply about their bills. Students will be revising their bills once more before getting approval from the Executive Branch-Michelle.
Math: Students have now logged into ST Math and should have access at home. Students have been reviewing and learning how to round numbers to the tens, hundreds, thousands, all the way to the millions place. You can practice with your child when you go to the store. Have them round each price to the nearest dollar. Then they can practice adding all the items in the basket for a subtotal. I have found a poem and example to help you. Look below.
Writing: Students have been working hard putting together a collage about themselves. Some students have never thought about using words from magazines for a collage. It's fun to get to know each student's interests and what they value as important. Students will share their collages this Thursday and Friday during writing.
Word Study: We watched a Brainpop video on Prefixes, Suffixes, Root Words, and Base Words. Then, students glued a flip organizer into their notebooks and discussed each word. The next day, students glued four prefixes into their notebooks with the meanings and worked in groups to make a list of words using the prefix "re- to do again."
HWT: We reviewed "Magic c, a, d, g, h, t, p, e"
Art with Mr. Mason: The students have been learning about Pablo Picasso and creating their own masterpieces.
Art with Cordula: The students have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh and observed his sunflower painting. Students then created a pastel chalk glue resist illustration.
